Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a bed base and a bed frame?
A base is an upholstered platform that the mattress sits directly on, usually paired with a separate headboard. A frame is a full structure with a built-in headboard and often a footboard, in timber or upholstered finishes. Both support a mattress well — it comes down to the look you want and whether you need storage underneath.
Will a split base fit up my stairs or through a narrow doorway?
That's exactly what they're designed for. A split base arrives in two halves that join once in the room, so Queen, King and Super King sizes can get through tight hallways, corners and stairwells that a single-piece base won't clear. Worth choosing if you're in an apartment or a two-storey home.
Do I need a new base when I buy a new mattress?
Not always, but an old or sagging base will shorten the life of a new mattress and can affect how it feels. If your current base is more than about ten years old, creaks, or dips in the middle, it's worth replacing at the same time.
Can I see these in person before buying?
Yes — visit our Papatoetoe showroom at 29 Charles Street, open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Call us on 09-278-8881 first if you'd like to check a particular frame or base is currently on display.

About Dining Tables
How do I choose the right dining table?
When selecting a dining table, there are a few key factors to keep in mind. First, consider how many people will typically be seated at the table. For households of 4 to 6 people, a small dining table should be sufficient. For larger families of 10 or more, a table that is 2.8 meters or longer will likely be necessary. If your guest numbers tend to vary, an extension table could be the most practical choice.
Next, think about the size and shape of your dining area. Ideally, there should be at least 1 meter of space around the table to allow room for chairs and comfortable movement. Generally, a rectangular dining table suits a rectangular room best. If your space is more compact, a square or round table may be more suitable.
Lastly, take into account the colours and materials. It’s important for the dining table to complement the overall look of your space, including the dining chairs, flooring, and interior style. You can choose to match or contrast. Matching typically involves selecting similar colours and materials to those already in your décor, while contrasting means opting for a distinctly different tone or texture to create visual interest.
