Athena Mirror Large | Online8 New Zealand
The frame is cast from crushed stone bound in polyresin, and that single fact separates the Athena from almost everything else on this page. It gives a frame with the density, the cool touch and the faint surface grain of real stone — at 190mm deep and 22kg, this is a substantial object with the presence of masonry rather than of moulded plastic. The Dark Fossil colouring is worked through the material, not painted on top of it.
Why It Stands Apart
- Crushed stone, not moulded resin alone. Real stone aggregate bound in polyresin gives genuine weight and a mineral surface texture that a hollow moulded frame cannot imitate.
- 190mm of frame depth. Exceptionally deep for a wall mirror, which turns the surround into a recess and gives the reflection the quality of a view through an opening.
- Colour through the material. The Dark Fossil tone runs through the cast rather than sitting on the surface, so a chip exposes more of the same colour instead of a pale core.
- Weight you can feel. At 22kg it hangs solid and still against the wall, with none of the movement a lightweight frame has when a door closes nearby.

Frequently Asked Questions
How should it be fixed to the wall?
Into structural framing, across more than one stud. At 22kg this is well past what any plasterboard anchor should be asked to hold, and a cast stone frame coming off a wall will do serious damage to whatever is beneath it. Locate your studs, check for wiring and pipework across the whole fixing zone before you drill, and treat it as a two-person lift — the 190mm depth makes it awkward to hold close to your body.
Does the depth stand off the wall a long way?
Yes, 190mm is a great deal for a wall mirror, so check your clearances. It will project into a hallway noticeably and it is not suited to a spot behind a door swing or beside a walkway where people pass close to the wall.
Will the surface chip?
Cast stone is hard but brittle at the edges, so a sharp knock on a corner can take a chip. The colour runs through the material, which means damage is far less obvious than on a painted frame, but handle the corners carefully during installation.
Can it go in a bathroom?
A well-ventilated one is fine — the cast material is unaffected by humidity. Keep it out of direct shower spray so water does not sit against the bottom edge of the glass.
