Is this solid oak?
The frame, legs and carcass are solid oak. The top surface is oak veneer over a stable board core, which helps a large top stay flat rather than cupping or splitting with seasonal humidity changes.
Why does hand-waxing matter?
Wax penetrates the timber rather than forming a film over it. The grain stays visible and feels like wood, and if the surface dulls you can simply re-wax it instead of stripping and refinishing.
Shelf or drawer — which should I choose?
The shelf keeps books and baskets on show and costs less; the drawer version hides clutter. Same 500mm cube either way.
Will the oak grain vary?
Yes. Oak has a pronounced grain, and each table carries its own figure and tone.
How do I care for it?
Dust with a soft dry cloth. Use coasters under wet or hot items — a wax finish is less water-resistant than lacquer — and re-wax occasionally with a clear furniture wax.
