This is the flat black version of the Madrid square, and the finish is the reason to choose it over its black walnut twin — an even, grainless black that reads as a drawn outline on the wall rather than as timber. A metre square is an awkward size to buy well: too large to be an accent, too quiet to dominate. That is exactly why it sits comfortably above a sideboard, in a hallway, or centred over a bed without looking like a compromise.
Why It Stands Apart
- A black finish, not a wood tone. The veneer is finished flat black so the frame becomes a graphic edge, which suits monochrome and high-contrast rooms where a visible grain would fight the scheme.
- A true square. At 1000 x 1000mm it has no long axis to align to, so it hangs correctly on any wall and does not need to be balanced against the furniture beneath it.
- Veneer over a plywood core. The plywood substrate holds the square true over time, keeping the mitred corners tight rather than letting them creep out of right angles.

How is this different from the other Madrid 100cm Square?
Only the finish. This is the black version, SKU YNM24025-BLK. The other is black walnut, SKU YNM24025-BW, and shows the walnut grain through the finish. Size, construction and price are identical, so check the SKU if the finish matters to you.
How should it be fixed to the wall?
Into a stud rather than into plasterboard alone. A metre-square mirror with an 80mm frame carries real weight, and the fixing is the only thing between it and the floor. Check for wiring or pipework before you drill, and have a second person help you position it — a square this size is difficult to hold level single-handed.
What does it weigh?
The weight recorded against this product came from a bulk supplier import and is identical across several Madrid mirrors of very different sizes, so we do not trust it. Call the showroom and we will confirm the actual shipping weight.
