Two materials doing different jobs. The frame is solid old oak, which gives the piece its warmth and its mass, edged in iron that both protects the timber and draws a fine dark line around the whole thing. That combination is why it works in a dining or living room without taking over — the oak keeps it domestic and the iron keeps it from looking soft, and at 800 x 1200mm it is deliberately sized to be noticed rather than to dominate.

Why It Stands Apart

• Solid old oak, not veneer. Reclaimed timber with genuine grain and colour variation, so the frame has character that a new or veneered oak frame does not.
• Iron edging. The metal protects the timber's most vulnerable surface, the outer edge, while drawing a crisp dark outline around the piece.
• Only 35mm deep. Slim for a solid timber frame, so it hangs close to the wall and suits circulation spaces.
• Wall or floor. Proportioned to hang or to lean, which at 800 x 1200mm makes it one of the more flexible pieces in the range.

How should it be fixed to the wall?
Into a stud rather than plasterboard alone. At 14kg this is genuinely heavy for its size, because solid oak and iron together weigh far more than the slim 35mm profile suggests. Use fixings rated well above 14kg, check for wiring before drilling, and have someone help you position it.

Can I lean it against the wall instead?
Yes, but secure it. At 1200mm it is shorter than most leaners here, but 14kg falling from a lean can still do real damage. Fit a strap or bracket into a stud behind it, keep it off rugs and uneven floors, and do not place it where a door can swing into it.

Will the oak colour vary?
Yes. This is reclaimed old oak, so grain, tone and surface marking differ from piece to piece. Yours will not be an exact match for the photograph, which is the nature of the material rather than a fault.

Can it go in a bathroom?
Only a well-ventilated one, away from the shower. The iron copes, but the oak will raise its grain under sustained humidity and moisture will eventually work in behind the mirror backing.
