Display Unit with Sliding Door - Reclaimed Elm | Online8 New Zealand
Timber with a past: this reclaimed elm display unit is built from timber around 80 years old, and it shows in every warm, varied tone and character mark. Standing 2300mm tall and 1200mm wide, it mixes horizontal and vertical compartments with a sliding door that moves across the front. The sliding door is the practical advantage — it needs no swing clearance, so the unit works in a hallway or beside a doorway where a hinged cabinet simply would not open. As genuine reclaimed timber, natural variation is expected, so every unit is different.
Why It Stands Apart
- Reclaimed Timber (~80 years old): Salvaged elm with warm, varied tones and genuine character marks.
- Sliding Door Rather Than Hinged: No swing clearance required, so it fits tight spaces and lets you conceal a different section depending on what is on show.
- Horizontal and Vertical Compartments: Mixed orientations rather than a uniform grid, so tall and wide items each have a place that fits.
- Drawers Alongside Open Storage: Concealed and open storage in the same carcass, so not everything has to be presentable.
- Metal Detailing: Hardware accents that complement the timber and suit the sliding mechanism.

Frequently Asked Questions
How old is the timber?
The elm is genuinely reclaimed and around 80 years old, so natural variation in tone, grain and the occasional mark is expected — it is what makes every unit different.
Does it need to be anchored to the wall?
Yes, without exception. At 2300mm tall this must be fixed into wall studs before loading. A sliding door also applies lateral force each time it is moved, which is a further reason not to leave the unit freestanding.
Will it fit under my ceiling?
Check before ordering. At 2300mm it leaves roughly 100mm under a standard 2400mm ceiling, so any cornice, ceiling rose, light fitting or sloped run above the position may rule it out.
How much clearance does the sliding door need?
None at the front, which is the advantage. The door travels across the face of the unit rather than swinging outward, so it can sit in a corridor or beside a door swing without conflict.
How is it shipped?
We ship New Zealand Wide. Shipping options available at checkout.
