This is the most emphatic piece in the collection: hand-carved mahogany, aged gold lacquer, 2200mm tall and 1200mm wide. Nothing else we sell asks as much of a room. That is not a caution so much as a specification — it needs ceiling height, floor area and a wall with nothing else competing on it, and given those three things it becomes the object the room is arranged around rather than an object placed in one.

Why It Stands Apart

• The largest ornate piece we carry. At 2200 x 1200mm the baroque carving reads as a continuous worked edge running the height of a wall rather than as a decorative border.
• Hand-carved mahogany. Cut into hardwood rather than cast, which across a span this long means the ornament never repeats identically and never looks moulded.
• Aged gold lacquer. Warm and knocked back rather than newly gilded, which is what keeps this much gold from tipping into gaudiness.
• A bevelled edge. The angled perimeter draws a line of light inside the frame, stopping 2.6 square metres of glass from reading as a flat void.

Will it fit through my door?
Not upright. At 2200mm it is well over a standard 1980mm door frame, and 1200mm of width leaves very little room to turn in an ordinary hallway. It must be tilted and manoeuvred through every doorway on the route in. Measure hall width, stair turns, landing space and ceiling height before you order, and call us first if anything is tight — a mirror that cannot be turned at the top of a stairwell cannot be got into the room at all.

How do I stop it falling over?
Secure it, without exception. A mahogany-framed mirror standing 2200mm tall has an extremely high centre of gravity, and if it goes over it will fall further and hit harder than almost anything else we sell. Strap or bracket it into a wall stud, never into plasterboard. Never stand it on a rug or an uneven floor, where the base can shift. Never place it where a door can swing into it. With children in the house it should never be left freestanding.

What size room does it need?
Ceiling height is the first constraint — at 2200mm it leaves only 200mm of headroom under a standard 2.4 metre ceiling, so it will read as floor-to-ceiling. It also needs a wall with nothing else on it. In a small room it will be the only thing you see.

Is there a smaller version?
Yes. The same frame and finish is made as a wall mirror at 1100 x 1500mm, SKU AH3041.

Will the gold tarnish?
No. It is lacquer rather than metal leaf, so it will not oxidise — but it can be scratched and cannot be polished back. Keep metal polish and abrasives away from it entirely.

What does it weigh?
Considerably more than our records state. The figure held against this product is a placeholder repeated across mirrors of very different sizes, so we have not published it. At this size the real weight determines how many people you need on delivery day — call the showroom and we will confirm.
