Gold is the finish this frame was designed around. The carving is baroque in character, and an aged gold lacquer is what that ornament was historically made to carry — it catches light along every cut edge and throws the detail into relief in a way the silver and white versions, for all their qualities, simply do not. Is there a larger version?

Can it stand on the floor instead of hanging?
Either. If you rest it against a wall it must be secured: at 1500mm it can be pulled over by a child or a pet, so fit a strap or bracket into a stud, never lean it on a rug or an uneven floor, and never where a door can swing into it.

How should it be fixed if I hang it?
Into structural framing across more than one stud. A mahogany frame at this size is heavy, so plasterboard anchors alone will not do. Check for wiring or pipework before drilling and lift it into place with two people.

Will the gold tarnish?
No — it is a lacquer finish rather than metal leaf or plate, so it will not oxidise. It can be scratched, though, and it cannot be polished back. Never use metal polish or an abrasive cleaner on it.

How do I clean hand-carved detail?
A soft dry brush rather than a cloth, which snags on the carving. Apply glass cleaner to the cloth rather than spraying it, so nothing runs into the recesses.
