Seventy-five millimetres of depth is what separates this from an ordinary round mirror. The Panama's ornate metalwork is built out from the wall rather than laid flat against it, so the frame catches light on its leading edges and drops shadow behind them — the detail has genuine dimension instead of being a pattern printed on a ring. Can it go in a bathroom?
Yes — a metal frame handles bathroom humidity without difficulty, which most of the framed mirrors in this collection cannot. Keep it out of direct shower spray so water does not sit against the bottom edge of the glass and work in behind the silvering.
Does the depth matter for placement?
It does. At 75mm it stands noticeably off the wall, so avoid mounting it behind a door swing or beside a narrow walkway where people pass close to the wall.
How do I clean the ornate metalwork?
A soft dry brush rather than a cloth, which catches on the detail. Apply glass cleaner to the cloth rather than spraying, and avoid metal polish — the silver is an applied finish rather than solid metal, and polish will strip it.
